Students will learn the competencies to counsel individuals and groups who are affected by addiction, and provide support throughout the recovery process. Through a series of courses over 5 domains, students are prepared to sit for their certification exam. \u00a0Completing this program successfully can lead to a certification with the Addiction Professionals Certification Board.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\n\n\r\n

Courses cover topics including, but not limited to: assessment, addiction recovery, counseling skills, crisis intervention, group and family counseling, consultation, disability, employment, child and family services, ethics and culture. A supervised externship of 3,000 hours is part of the Addiction Professionals Certification Board\u2019s certification requirement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n

Prerequisite: High School diploma or GED<\/em><\/p>\n

County College of Morris is an approved education provider of classroom training required by the Addiction Professionals Certification Board of New Jersey, Inc. (www.certbd.com<\/a>). All information related to licensing (certification) requirements as well as regulatory information and class descriptions can be found at other websites (see below). There are multiple requirements to qualify for certification. The education provided by CCM is just one requirement.<\/p>\n

There are five domains. Each domain has between six and nine courses, for a total of 54 hours of classroom instruction per domain. You can begin at any domain. CCM provides at least one domain in the fall and at least two domains for the spring sessions. Students may enroll in more than one domain each session. You receive a certificate of completion for each course.<\/p>\n

While the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) and the NJ Addictions Certification Board prefer that you complete the lessons and domains in order, there is no regulatory requirement to do so. To become a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), you need to complete the following:<\/p>\n

1. 270 hours of classroom training (5 domains, number of classes vary for each domain). Domains may be taken in any order and include Assessment, Counseling, Case Management, Client Education and Professional Responsibility<\/p>\n

2. 30 hours of alcohol and drug abuse self-help group meetings<\/p>\n

3. 3000 hours (1500 hours per year) of supervised experience (paid or voluntary)<\/p>\n

4. Successful completion of test requirement, case preparation and oral presentation<\/p>\n

About the Instructors<\/h2>\n

Ronald Faines, LCADC – <\/b>Ron has been teaching CADC students for more than 25 years and has worked in the field of addictions counseling for 30 years. He has a strong interest in preparing upcoming counselors and therapists to assist individuals in recovering from addictions. He holds an MS in Human Services from Lincoln University and a BSBA from Bloomfield College. Ron is also a Licensed Clinical Alcohol & Drug Counselor (LCADC) and Certified Clinical Supervisor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thomas Viola, MSW, LSW, LCADC – <\/b>Tom has 10 years of experience working with people affected by substance abuse and addiction, including working in the venues of counseling, treatment facilities and courts. He is an instructor for multiple domains in the Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor Certificate program.
